What is a non-geographical number? What is a premium number?
A non-geographic number is a telephone number associated with a country, but not to any single geographic location within that country. When someone dials a non-geographic number, the call is typically transferred to another number. For example a number attached to a satellite phone is considered a non-geographical number.
Premium-rate telephone numbers are numbers for telephone calls during which certain services are provided, and for which prices higher than normal are charged. For example a 900# is considered a premium-rate number.

Does Vonage work with both Mac and PC?
For regular Vonage VoIP service, there's no software to download and calls don't go through your computer, so the make doesn't matter.
Vonage SoftPhone®, or as we sometimes call it, Vonage Companion®, works on any platform. Just follow the directions on your online account service pages to install it for either Mac or PC.

Does my computer need to be on to make and receive calls?
Nope. Your computer doesn't have to be on to use Vonage. Only your high-speed Internet and electricity need to be up and running for your phone to work.

What is VoIP phone service?
VoIP, or Voice Over Internet Protocol, is the technology that turns your analog voice into digital data and sends it over the Internet instead of traditional phone lines. Vonage employs VoIP technology differently from its competition, in that it doesn't compress your voice, so the sound quality is superb.

How is Internet phone service different from a landline?
With a landline, your phone number's tied to where you live. If you move or travel, you can't always take that number with you. Vonage Internet phone service is completely portable, so you can turn any phone into your home phone. Plug any phone into the adapter, then plug that into a high-speed Internet connection and a power outlet and you're good to talk.
Plus, Vonage residential VoIP service has many features you can't get with a landline. For instance, Simul-Ring® can forward calls to any five numbers in the world, and Vonage Visual Voicemail® transcribes voicemails into emails or text messages, giving you the ability to avoid listening to long voicemails forever.
The greatest benefit of Vonage Internet phone service is that we give you all this, plus unlimited domestic calling and free international calls to more than 60 countries.

How is Vonage able to travel?
Because the Vonage Phone Adapter is small, portable and can store information for up to two Vonage lines, it's easy to take it anywhere. Your account information is stored in the phone adapter, not your home phone line or your computer. So wherever you travel, just plug in the power supply, then plug the adapter into any high-speed Internet connection and any phone to start making calls.
All the calls you make are billed to your account just as if you were calling from home.
